Appointments
Individual sessions are usually 50 minutes in length once a week, although some sessions may be longer and/or more or less frequent. Length of therapy varies with each individual and situation. Termination decisions are part of the therapeutic process and are made jointly by therapist and client.
There will be times an appointment will be missed due to unforeseen circumstances. Clients are asked to call as soon as possible. Scheduled appointments that are not kept and for which 24 hour notice is not given will be charged and is the responsibility of the client.
Fees
Payment for counseling services is due at each session. If you would like to use your health insurance for payment, please call me for more information about which insurance plans I am accepting. Also, check with your health insurance company or read your policy for details about your out-of-network coverage. I will provide a statement that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Confidentiality
In general, the law protects the privacy of all communications between a client and a therapist, and I can release information only with written permission from the client. But there are a few exceptions including, but not limited to the situations described below.
There are some instances in which I am legally obligated to take action to protect others from harm, even if I have to reveal some information about a client’s treatment. For example, if I believe that a child, elderly person, disable person is being abused, I must file a report with the appropriate state agency.
If I believe that a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another, I am required to take protective actions. These actions may include notifying the potential victim, contacting the police, or seeking hospitalization for the client. If the client threatens to harm him or herself, I may be obligated to seek hospitalization for him or her or to contact family members or others who can help provide protection. I will make every effort to fully discuss it with the client before taking any action.
Emergencies
In the event of a psychiatric emergency, I can be reached at 703 939 1625. The answering machine is on 24 hours a day and I will return the call as quickly as possible. If I am not available or the client cannot wait for a return call, he or she can contact 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
