Welcome to Emmaus Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC.
We live in a world where pain is present.
When pain crosses our path and becomes part of our journey, how will we respond?
Will you pause long enough to notice?
Will you allow it to be a part of your story?
In counseling, we wrestle with the past, present and future as well as our relationship with others and with God. It’s a place of honesty and vulnerability.
Often, uncomfortable emotions are stirred which we have a difficult time keeping company with. Such emotions may include guilt, shame, failure, loss, bitterness, jealousy, and anger. We would rather dismiss them and distance ourselves from them. But those are the very feelings that underlie and even influence our words, thoughts, and choices. In order for us to continually grow toward emotional and spiritual maturity, it is necessary to look deeper into our emotions - the expressions of our soul.
Professional counseling is not for everyone. It is however for persons who need a safe place to explore, wrestle with, and accept who they really are. It is for those who want to experience God’s redeeming work in the midst of their brokenness.
Counseling and therapy happens in a partnership. In order for treatment to be most effective, it needs to occur in the context of a support network. The progress that is made in sessions needs a supportive environment between sessions. Unfortunately, not everyone has the benefit of a system of healthy support. And building such support is one area that can be addressed in treatment.
Here are examples of people who may need professional help.
• Female in mid 20’s has a history of childhood abuse. She has repeatedly been in abusive relationships and is actively using substances.
She is feeling stuck.
• Male in 40’s was in treatment previously to address the impact of his parents’ divorce. Seeking therapy again because in his second marriage,
he notices that he is feeling anxious with thoughts that his wife might leave him.
• A teenager has been depressed for the past three months following an argument with her parents. She has isolated herself from close friends and
grades have dropped. No one knows what she is thinking or feeling.
• Female in 30’s returned to work after being home for the past 5 years as a full-time mother. She is having a difficult time with the transition.
On top of experiencing sleep problems, she has lost 15 pounds in 1 month and her mind never seems to rest.
